Nevada lawmakers have thrown their support behind H.R. 1479, a proposed federal bill that aims to boost transparency across the U.S. gambling industry. The legislation, officially titled the Gambling Accountability and Modernization Act, seeks to introduce more stringent financial disclosure and operational reporting requirements for gaming operators, both brick-and-mortar and online.
Addressing Longstanding Calls for Accountability
With Nevada being the epicenter of U.S. gambling, the state’s congressional delegation — including Representatives Susie Lee and Mark Amodei — is pushing for comprehensive reforms that will strengthen public trust and investor confidence. Supporters of H.R. 1479 argue that, as the U.S. gambling industry expands rapidly—with legal sports betting and online casino markets growing in more than 35 states—there is an urgent need for standardized reporting mechanisms to prevent financial misconduct, tax evasion, and money laundering.
The bill mandates uniform financial reporting, regular audits, and increased data-sharing between operators and regulators. It also introduces provisions to enhance consumer protection, including clearer disclosure of odds and payouts to gamblers.
Industry Impact and Stakeholder Reactions
If enacted, H.R. 1479 would mark one of the most significant regulatory overhauls since the passage of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) in 2006. While some operators have expressed concerns over increased compliance costs, key industry associations—including the American Gaming Association (AGA)—have welcomed the potential for clearer national guidelines, which could streamline multi-state operations.
Analysts suggest that greater transparency could also improve market stability, bolster responsible gambling initiatives, and attract more institutional investors wary of opaque practices.
As bipartisan support mounts and hearings are expected later this year, Nevada’s leadership in championing the bill underscores its commitment to maintaining integrity and competitiveness in an evolving gambling landscape.
