All 20 Premier League clubs are joining forces with Samaritans throughout September to promote suicide prevention, encourage open conversations and help supporters access trusted mental health support.
The Premier League and its 20 clubs have united behind the Together Against Suicide campaign, using the reach of football to raise awareness of suicide prevention and encourage people experiencing difficult moments to seek support.
The campaign is being highlighted across Premier League matches between 4 and 14 September 2026, with activities coinciding with World Suicide Prevention Day on September 10. The initiative is being delivered in partnership with suicide prevention charity Samaritans and aims to create greater awareness of the support available to fans affected by suicide or suicidal thoughts.
All 20 Clubs Expand Matchday Support
A major development this season is the expansion of the initiative across the entire Premier League. All 20 clubs will provide tailored support environments on home matchdays throughout the 2026/27 campaign.
These spaces are designed to give supporters opportunities to talk in safe and non-judgemental surroundings. Fans can also be directed towards trusted organisations and specialist services where additional assistance is required.
The league-wide programme builds on a pilot initiative involving 11 Premier League clubs during the previous season. The pilot demonstrated the potential of football clubs to reach people who may otherwise find it difficult to discuss mental health challenges or suicidal thoughts.
Football’s Role in Suicide Prevention
The campaign reflects the Premier League’s broader efforts to use football’s popularity and community reach to address important social issues.
According to the campaign information, someone in the UK dies by suicide approximately every 90 minutes, while one in four people will experience suicidal thoughts during their lifetime. The initiative therefore seeks to encourage supporters to recognise when someone may be struggling and become more confident about starting conversations that could lead to professional help.
Premier League Chief Executive Richard Masters said the expansion to all 20 clubs represents an important step, highlighting the ability of football clubs to create welcoming environments where supporters can discuss difficult experiences and find appropriate support.
Matchday Activations Across the League
The campaign will have a visible presence inside stadiums during matches played between September 4 and September 14.
Planned activities include stadium LED boards promoting the Samaritans’ 24-hour helpline and local support services, messages on stadium screens and public-address systems, as well as features in matchday programmes.
The campaign will receive additional attention on World Suicide Prevention Day on September 10, when the Premier League and Samaritans are expected to release a league-wide film built around the campaign’s central message.
Individual clubs are also incorporating the campaign into their existing mental health and community programmes. Manchester City, for example, is continuing its wider work around mental health and suicide prevention through initiatives involving community organisations and peer-support programmes.
Building on the Impact of the Previous Campaign
The expansion follows the initial launch of Together Against Suicide in September 2025. According to Samaritans, its national helpline recorded up to 300 additional callers per day following the campaign’s launch, demonstrating the potential impact of awareness initiatives in encouraging people to reach out for help.
Samaritans Chief Executive Julie Bentley said safe spaces for conversation can have a life-changing impact and welcomed the involvement of all 20 Premier League clubs during the new season.
The organisation has worked with football and other community partners to improve understanding of suicide prevention and encourage conversations around mental health. The Premier League says its work with Samaritans has also helped provide suicide-prevention training to more than 3,000 Premier League and club staff, as well as supporters.
A League-Wide Commitment
With football clubs deeply connected to their local communities, the Premier League believes the sport can play an important role in reducing stigma and directing people towards professional support.
The Together Against Suicide campaign will continue beyond the September awareness period, with all 20 clubs providing bespoke support during home matchdays throughout the 2026/27 season.
The initiative ultimately aims to reinforce a simple message: people experiencing suicidal thoughts or struggling with their mental health do not have to face those challenges alone. By combining the influence of football with specialist suicide-prevention expertise, the Premier League and Samaritans are seeking to make conversations about mental health more visible, accessible and supportive.
