The North West Gambling Board used the youth-focused initiative to support entrepreneurship, financial awareness and responsible gambling among young people in the province.
The North West Gambling Board (NWGB) has participated in the 2026 Zenzele Youth Entrepreneurship Tour, joining a broader initiative aimed at supporting young entrepreneurs and promoting economic opportunities for young people in South Africa’s North West Province.
The programme brings together young entrepreneurs, government institutions, educational organisations and private-sector stakeholders to discuss entrepreneurship, business development and financial inclusion.
For the NWGB, participation in the initiative also provided an opportunity to incorporate responsible gambling awareness into wider conversations about financial decision-making and youth development.
Supporting youth entrepreneurship
The Zenzele Youth Entrepreneurship Tour is focused on helping young people develop the knowledge and connections needed to pursue entrepreneurial opportunities.
The 2026 programme has included discussions around business development, access to finance, mentorship, networking and financial inclusion, providing participants with opportunities to engage with entrepreneurs and organisations supporting enterprise development.
Young entrepreneurs have also been given opportunities to showcase their businesses while exploring potential avenues for growth and support.
The programme is associated with the Young African Entrepreneurs Institute (YAEI) and Absa, alongside government and educational partners involved in youth development and entrepreneurship initiatives.
NWGB brings responsible gambling awareness
The participation of the North West Gambling Board added a regulatory and responsible-gambling dimension to the entrepreneurship programme.
As young people increasingly engage with different financial products and opportunities, the NWGB has highlighted the importance of making informed financial decisions, including understanding the potential risks associated with gambling.
Responsible gambling awareness forms part of the Board’s wider public education activities and complements its regulatory mandate within the North West Province.
By engaging with young entrepreneurs directly, the NWGB can communicate responsible gambling principles while participating in broader discussions around financial awareness and economic empowerment.
Connecting entrepreneurship and financial decision-making
The programme’s focus on entrepreneurship and financial inclusion provides a relevant platform for discussions about responsible financial behaviour.
Young entrepreneurs face decisions involving business funding, investment, cash flow management and personal finances. The NWGB’s involvement highlights the importance of understanding how different financial activities can affect individuals and communities.
The Board has participated in other youth-focused engagements covering subjects such as cooperative development, funding opportunities, business incubation, market access, financial management and regulatory compliance.
These areas are closely connected to the broader objective of helping young people build sustainable businesses and make informed decisions about available financial opportunities.
Collaboration across sectors
The Zenzele initiative also demonstrates the role of collaboration between public institutions, financial-sector organisations, educational institutions and youth-focused organisations.
The 2026 programme has involved universities and other strategic partners, creating opportunities for young entrepreneurs to access different forms of knowledge, mentorship and business support.
Such partnerships can provide young people with exposure to established entrepreneurs and industry professionals while helping them better understand the resources available to support enterprise development.
For the NWGB, participating in this type of programme provides an additional channel through which the regulator can engage with younger audiences outside traditional gambling-sector forums.
Broader socioeconomic development
The NWGB’s participation is also consistent with the Board’s broader role in regulating gambling in the North West Province while contributing to socioeconomic development.
Youth empowerment and responsible gambling awareness can form complementary elements of community outreach, particularly where programmes are designed to improve financial knowledge and encourage productive economic participation.
The Zenzele Youth Entrepreneurship Tour therefore provides a platform for the Board to communicate its regulatory messages while supporting a wider programme focused on entrepreneurship and economic development.
Looking ahead
The continued involvement of the NWGB in youth-focused initiatives reflects the growing importance of community engagement in gambling regulation.
Through programmes such as the 2026 Zenzele Youth Entrepreneurship Tour, the Board can engage directly with young people, promote awareness of responsible gambling and contribute to discussions about entrepreneurship and financial inclusion.
For participating young entrepreneurs, the programme provides opportunities to build networks, learn about business support and explore avenues for developing their enterprises.
The collaboration ultimately brings together two related areas of public interest: youth economic empowerment and responsible financial decision-making.
As entrepreneurship initiatives continue to expand across the North West Province, the participation of regulatory and financial-sector stakeholders is expected to remain relevant in helping young people access information, support and opportunities while understanding the risks associated with different financial activities.
