Financial assistance to a student at Monrovia School for the Deaf highlights the authority’s continued focus on education, social inclusion and community support.
Liberia’s National Lottery Authority (NLA) has provided L$16,750 in financial assistance to Ujay Shanennon, a student at the Monrovia School for the Deaf, reinforcing the authority’s commitment to supporting inclusive education and vulnerable members of society.
The assistance was presented on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at the school in the Old Road Community. The intervention is intended to help Shanennon meet educational and other school-related expenses as he continues his studies.
The financial support was delivered through the NLA’s Management, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Department and Social Welfare Unit, reflecting the authority’s broader approach to using its social programmes to support individuals and communities facing challenges.
NLA highlights importance of accessible education
Presenting the assistance on behalf of NLA Management, Watson Yeanue, Director of Corporate Social Responsibility, highlighted the importance of education in creating opportunities and strengthening individual capacity.
According to the NLA, education should remain accessible to all members of society, including people who may face additional barriers because of disabilities or other circumstances.
The authority’s intervention at the Monrovia School for the Deaf therefore forms part of its wider efforts to promote social inclusion through practical assistance.
The NLA emphasised that people living with disabilities should not be excluded from opportunities to acquire knowledge, develop their talents and participate meaningfully in society.
Through its CSR and Social Welfare programmes, the authority continues to identify areas where targeted assistance can provide meaningful support to individuals and institutions.
Supporting students beyond the classroom
The latest contribution also highlights the role that financial assistance can play in helping students remain focused on their education.
For students facing financial difficulties, support with school-related expenses can help reduce some of the barriers that may affect their ability to continue their studies. The NLA’s contribution to Shanennon is therefore positioned not only as financial assistance, but also as part of a broader commitment to creating opportunities for vulnerable members of the community.
The authority has previously used its CSR and Social Welfare framework to provide support to educational institutions, persons with disabilities, vulnerable individuals and community organisations across Liberia.
The NLA said such initiatives remain important to its broader social responsibility objectives, particularly where support can contribute to education, inclusion and community development.
Student expresses appreciation
Following the presentation, Ujay Shanennon expressed his appreciation to the National Lottery Authority and its management for the assistance.
The student also reaffirmed his commitment to his education, with the financial support expected to contribute towards meeting some of the costs associated with his studies.
The intervention at the Monrovia School for the Deaf demonstrates the NLA’s continued engagement with communities through its CSR and Social Welfare activities.
By directing assistance towards education and individuals with disabilities, the authority is seeking to reinforce the importance of equal access to opportunities and participation in society.
The L$16,750 contribution ultimately represents one component of the NLA’s broader social support efforts in Liberia, with education and inclusion remaining important areas of its community-focused activities.
