Another High-Profile Bet Ends in Defeat
Global music star Drake has added another costly chapter to his well-documented betting history after losing $1m on the Super Bowl, once again drawing attention to his mixed fortunes in sports wagering. The rapper publicly backed the New England Patriots, posting his bet slip on social media ahead of the game. However, the wager quickly unraveled as the Seattle Seahawks delivered a dominant performance, securing a decisive victory and leaving Drake on the wrong side of yet another headline bet.
Placed at odds of 2.95, the bet would have returned nearly $3m had the Patriots claimed the title. Instead, it joined a growing list of high-stakes wagers that have failed to pay off, reinforcing the popular online narrative known as the “Drake Curse.”
The Rise of the ‘Drake Curse’ Narrative
Among sports fans and bettors alike, the “Drake Curse” has become a long-running meme. The idea suggests that teams, athletes, or outcomes publicly backed by Drake often end in defeat. While rooted in superstition, the pattern has been fuelled by a series of highly visible losses across multiple sports, from football and basketball to boxing and tennis.
Fans have even tracked his betting history closely, turning each loss into viral content. The curse narrative has become so widespread that, in past years, some sports teams jokingly discouraged players from appearing in photos with the artist.
A Costly Betting Track Record
According to publicly available betting trackers, Drake has wagered nearly $37m across more than 80 public bets, with net losses approaching $800,000 overall. While he has recorded wins on roughly one-third of those bets, the scale and frequency of his losses have overshadowed his occasional successes.
Recent defeats include betting on Jake Paul in a boxing match, backing Jannik Sinner in a Grand Slam final, multiple NBA Finals wagers, and a seven-figure loss on the Toronto Maple Leafs in the NHL playoffs. Although the UFC remains one of his more profitable sports, football and soccer have proven far less forgiving.
Stake Partnership Keeps Bets in the Spotlight
A major reason Drake’s betting attracts such attention is his high-profile partnership with crypto gambling platform Stake and Stake.us. Since 2022, Drake has frequently shared screenshots of his bets, appeared in promotional livestreams, and featured in branded content. Reports suggest the partnership could be worth up to $100m annually.
However, the relationship has not been without controversy. Drake has been named alongside Stake.us in multiple lawsuits in the United States, including allegations related to sweepstakes gambling practices and platform functionality.
Losses Continue, Bets Go On
Despite mounting losses and growing scrutiny, Drake shows no sign of stepping back from placing large wagers. Seven-figure bets remain a regular feature of his social media presence, keeping fans, critics, and bookmakers watching closely.
For now, until a major winning streak replaces the headlines, the Drake Curse remains firmly embedded in betting culture — a blend of superstition, celebrity, and very real financial losses.
