New agreement brings Circle and USDC branding to Chelsea’s men’s, women’s and Academy teams as the digital finance company targets football’s massive global audience
Chelsea Football Club has entered a new chapter in its commercial strategy after announcing a partnership with Circle Internet Group, bringing the company’s USDC stablecoin brand to the front of the club’s shirts for the 2026/27 season.
The agreement, announced on August 28, makes Circle the club’s Principal Partner and Official Front-of-Shirt Partner. Circle and USDC branding will appear on the shirts of Chelsea’s men’s, women’s and Academy teams, giving the financial technology company significant exposure across one of the world’s most recognisable football brands.
Circle Joins Chelsea as Principal Partner
The partnership represents a major move for Circle as it seeks to increase awareness of USDC beyond traditional cryptocurrency and digital-asset audiences.
Circle, founded in 2013, is a financial technology company focused on blockchain-based financial infrastructure. Its best-known product is USDC, a dollar-backed stablecoin designed to facilitate digital transactions and the movement of value across borders.
Through its agreement with Chelsea, Circle will have its branding prominently displayed across the club’s three major football programmes.
The partnership is scheduled to begin during the 2026/27 campaign, with the branding making its Premier League debut at Chelsea’s first home league match of the season against Brighton & Hove Albion.
USDC Targets a Global Football Audience
For Circle, the agreement provides access to Chelsea’s international fanbase and creates a high-profile platform for introducing USDC to a much broader audience.
Football has become an increasingly attractive marketing channel for companies operating in the digital finance sector because of its global reach. Chelsea’s international following gives Circle an opportunity to associate its brand with a sport watched by hundreds of millions of people around the world.
The company views the partnership as an opportunity to communicate its broader vision of making financial transactions faster, more accessible and less restricted by geographical borders.
Circle CEO and co-founder Jeremy Allaire said the partnership reflects the company’s belief that money should move seamlessly across borders, while Chelsea provides a global community through which that vision can be communicated.
A New Direction for Chelsea’s Commercial Strategy
For Chelsea, the agreement represents more than simply adding another logo to the club’s shirt.
Chelsea President Jason Gannon described the partnership as part of the club’s effort to remain at the forefront of football’s digital development. The club has increasingly positioned itself as an organisation willing to work with companies operating at the intersection of technology, finance and sports.
The agreement also strengthens Chelsea’s relationship with the rapidly developing digital-asset sector.
The club has previously worked with cryptocurrency-related companies, but placing USDC prominently on the front of the playing shirts represents a significant level of visibility for a digital financial brand.
Partnership Covers Men’s, Women’s and Academy Teams
One notable aspect of the agreement is its broad scope.
Circle and USDC branding will appear on the shirts of Chelsea Men, Chelsea Women and the Academy, giving the partnership exposure across the club’s entire football structure.
Chelsea Women will also begin an important new chapter with their first season playing at Stamford Bridge as their primary home venue. Aki Mandhar, CEO of Chelsea FC Women, welcomed Circle to the women’s team and highlighted the potential for both organisations to build stronger connections with their respective communities.
The inclusion of the Academy also means that the partnership will have visibility across Chelsea’s youth development structure.
Stablecoins Move Further Into the Mainstream
The Chelsea agreement comes as stablecoins continue to attract increasing attention across the global financial system.
Stablecoins are digital assets designed to maintain a stable value, with USDC designed to maintain a one-to-one relationship with the US dollar. They are increasingly being explored for payments, transfers and other financial applications.
Circle believes the technology can help reduce friction associated with moving money internationally.
By placing USDC on a major Premier League shirt, the company is taking the concept into a mainstream environment that extends well beyond the traditional cryptocurrency community.
The strategy could help Circle introduce its brand to consumers who may have limited knowledge of stablecoins but are highly familiar with Chelsea Football Club.
More Than a Shirt Sponsorship
The partnership has been positioned by both organisations as more than a conventional sponsorship arrangement.
Chelsea views Circle as a company aligned with its ambitions around innovation and global growth, while Circle sees the football club as an effective platform for demonstrating the potential of borderless digital finance.
Todd Kline, Chelsea’s President of Commercial, described the partnership as an alignment between two organisations seeking to change how they operate on a global scale.
The agreement therefore combines sports marketing with financial technology, creating a partnership that could serve as a model for future collaborations between major football clubs and digital-finance companies.
Looking Ahead
As the 2026/27 season progresses, the impact of the Circle partnership will extend beyond the visibility of its logo on Chelsea shirts.
For Circle, the key objective will be converting global brand exposure into greater awareness and adoption of USDC. For Chelsea, the partnership provides another opportunity to strengthen its position as a globally focused club embracing technological innovation.
With Circle and USDC now featured across the men’s, women’s and Academy shirts, Chelsea is connecting one of football’s biggest global platforms with the rapidly developing world of digital finance.
The partnership ultimately reflects a wider shift in the sports industry, where technology, financial services and global entertainment are increasingly converging. For both Chelsea and Circle, the 2026/27 season could mark the beginning of a new relationship between the global game and the future of digital finance.
