North West authorities join forces during Women’s Month to strengthen compliance, uncover illegal gambling operations and educate businesses about regulatory obligations
Female law-enforcement officers and compliance officials from several government and regulatory institutions have led a coordinated enforcement campaign in Vryburg, North West Province, as authorities intensify efforts to improve compliance and tackle illegal gambling activities.
The operation, conducted across the Naledi Local Municipality, brought together officials from provincial and local government agencies as well as law-enforcement bodies. A second establishment was found to have a significantly larger illegal gambling setup, consisting of 50 computers and 43 illegal gambling machines.
The discoveries demonstrate the challenges faced by provincial regulators in identifying gambling activities that operate outside the licensed framework.
Following the inspections, both operators were issued R2,500 fines.
