New two-year partnership aims to expand youth opportunities, improve training infrastructure, and create clearer pathways for aspiring Kenyan footballers
Former Harambee Stars captain Victor Wanyama has entered into a two-year partnership with 22Bet Kenya to support grassroots football development and nurture the next generation of football talent across the country. The collaboration, announced in Nairobi, will focus on strengthening youth development through the Victor Wanyama Foundation and the Wanyama Academy, reinforcing both parties’ commitment to creating sustainable opportunities for young athletes.
The initiative represents more than a commercial sponsorship. Instead, it is designed as a long-term investment in Kenya’s football ecosystem by improving access to quality coaching, modern training facilities, and structured player development programmes that can prepare talented youngsters for professional careers.
As football continues to grow in popularity across East Africa, both Wanyama and 22Bet believe that strategic investment at the grassroots level is essential to raising the standard of the game nationally.
Building Pathways for Young Footballers
Speaking during the launch of the partnership, Wanyama emphasized the importance of providing young players with the resources needed to compete successfully at the highest levels of football.
He noted that many talented Kenyan footballers struggle to progress because they lack access to quality infrastructure, experienced coaching staff, and organized development pathways. As a result, many players who secure opportunities abroad often begin their careers in lower divisions before gradually working their way up.
Through the partnership, Wanyama hopes to shorten that journey by creating an environment where promising athletes can develop the technical, tactical, and professional skills required to compete internationally.
He stressed that investing in youth development today will strengthen Kenyan football for years to come.
Wanyama Academy Nearing Completion
A major component of the project is the completion of the Wanyama Academy in Busia County. According to Wanyama, construction of the academy is approximately 80 percent complete, with work on the football pitch representing one of the final stages before the facility becomes fully operational.
Once completed, the academy will provide aspiring footballers with access to modern training facilities, structured coaching programmes, and development opportunities designed to prepare them for both domestic and international competition.
The facility is expected to become a hub for identifying and nurturing talented young players from across Kenya.
22Bet Kenya Backs Long-Term Football Development
For 22Bet Kenya, the partnership reflects a broader commitment to supporting sports development beyond sponsorship and brand visibility.
Company representatives said investing in grassroots football creates lasting value for communities while helping build a stronger foundation for the future of Kenyan football. By supporting youth programmes and football infrastructure, the operator hopes to contribute to the emergence of more players capable of competing at the highest levels of the sport.
22Bet Kenya Country Manager Joash Ajuoga described youth development as one of the most effective ways to strengthen the country’s football ecosystem, adding that long-term investment can produce significant benefits for clubs, national teams, and the wider sporting community.
He also expressed optimism that sustained investment could eventually help produce world-class footballers capable of competing for football’s biggest individual honours.
Football Development Beyond Sponsorship
Both partners emphasized that the collaboration is intended to deliver meaningful social impact rather than simply serve as a marketing initiative.
The programme will focus on creating opportunities for young athletes through structured coaching, talent identification, mentorship, and improved sporting infrastructure. These efforts are expected to increase access to professional development pathways while encouraging greater participation in organized football at the grassroots level.
The initiative also highlights the growing role that private-sector partnerships can play in supporting sports development across Africa.
Investing in the Future of Kenyan Football
Kenya has produced several players who have competed successfully on the international stage, and Wanyama remains one of the country’s most accomplished football exports. Drawing on his own professional experience, he believes stronger grassroots systems are essential to ensuring future generations receive the support needed to reach similar heights.
By combining Wanyama’s football expertise with 22Bet Kenya’s financial support, the partnership seeks to establish a sustainable model for youth football development that can benefit communities across the country.
As the Wanyama Academy moves closer to completion and development programmes begin to expand, the initiative represents an important step toward strengthening Kenya’s football talent pipeline. If successful, the partnership could help shape a new generation of players while contributing to the long-term growth and competitiveness of Kenyan football.
