Longstanding charity partnership delivers vital support to over 15,000 unpaid carers
Record-Breaking Fundraising Supports Carers in Need
The Rank Group — parent company of Grosvenor Casinos and Mecca Bingo — has raised over £400,000 for Carers Trust during the financial year ending June 2025. Surpassing its original fundraising target of £351,000, the effort reaffirms Rank’s deep-rooted commitment to supporting unpaid carers, many of whom are often overlooked in public policy and social services.
The funds, raised through a combination of grassroots initiatives — from marathon runs and cycling challenges to head-shaving events and festive volunteering — will be distributed across approximately 130 local carer organisations. These grants will directly fund respite breaks, household essentials, and mental health resources for carers.
Transforming Lives Through Local Impact
The Rank Group has supported Carers Trust since 2014, and during this time, it has raised more than £4 million, impacting over 15,000 carers nationwide. Carers Trust focuses on aiding unpaid carers — individuals who provide care to ill, disabled, or elderly loved ones — by offering both practical and emotional support.
Importantly, Rank’s support goes beyond financial contributions. Employees from Grosvenor and Mecca took part in Carers Trust’s grant panels, offering staff a firsthand understanding of the struggles carers face and the positive impact of the funding. This hands-on involvement has fostered deeper empathy and purpose within Rank’s workforce.
Mark Harper, Managing Director of Grosvenor, reflected on his experience on a grant panel:
“It was both humbling and life-affirming. The challenges carers face are immense, yet they remain incredibly selfless. I take immense pride in what our teams and customers are achieving through this partnership.”
A Partnership of Purpose and Progress
Kirsty McHugh, CEO of Carers Trust, emphasized the broader social significance of the partnership:
“As more and more people take on caring responsibilities, this kind of support becomes even more crucial. Rank’s fundraising provides a lifeline to carers, many of whom sacrifice their own health and wellbeing for others.”
The success of the 2024–2025 campaign reinforces how sustained corporate-charity partnerships can create meaningful, measurable impact at both individual and community levels.
Business Success with a Human Touch
This philanthropic achievement coincides with a strong financial performance by The Rank Group. The operator expects to post £63 million in operating profit for FY2025 — an 11% year-on-year revenue increase. As Rank thrives commercially, it continues to demonstrate that profitability and social impact can go hand in hand.
In a landscape where businesses are increasingly evaluated not just by revenue but also by social responsibility, Rank Group’s ongoing support of Carers Trust stands as a model for ethical and community-focused corporate practice.
Looking Forward
With the UK’s carer population steadily rising — an estimated 5.7 million unpaid carers according to Carers UK — the need for coordinated, compassionate support is greater than ever. Rank Group’s efforts provide not only funding, but awareness, dignity, and recognition to those often caring behind closed doors.
As the partnership evolves, Rank and Carers Trust are poised to continue making tangible changes in the lives of thousands, proving that even in an entertainment-focused industry, compassion and care remain powerful cornerstones.
