Over 1,400 upgraded machines to support regulatory readiness and player experience
Light & Wonder has confirmed a major infrastructure upgrade deal with Mecca Bingo, bringing a new era of digital gaming to all 50 of the operator’s UK venues. This sweeping modernisation includes the deployment of 850 Equinox terminals and upgrades to 645 T8 cabinets, positioning Mecca to stay ahead of forthcoming regulatory changes and evolving customer expectations.
Major Hardware Overhaul Across the Estate
As part of the agreement, the existing T8 terminals will be updated with Mk8i hardware, extending their operational lifecycle while enhancing performance. The new Equinox terminals – known for their high-resolution displays, responsive gameplay, and premium cabinet design – will allow Mecca to deliver more immersive content and consistent hardware experiences across its sites.
This rollout is among the largest in Mecca’s recent history and reflects a growing industry trend toward future-proofing venue technology, especially in anticipation of regulatory shifts around machine classifications and digital content flexibility.
Integration with Videobet Platform
In addition to the hardware upgrade, Mecca will implement Light & Wonder’s Videobet platform, which is tailored for managing content across B3, B4 and Category C segments. This back-end system provides greater content control and adaptability, enabling seamless integration of new titles and dynamic regulation compliance.
Among the titles already seeing success through the new ecosystem is Rainbow Riches Blazing Lock, which has delivered strong early performance metrics, according to Light & Wonder.
Industry Confidence and Operational Impact
Iain Graham, Slots Director at Mecca Bingo, commended Light & Wonder for its execution:
“From planning to installation, Light & Wonder’s professionalism and meticulous attention to detail have been exceptional. We are already seeing a clear uplift in revenue and are excited for what the future holds with Light & Wonder as a trusted collaborator.”
From a strategic perspective, the upgrade also comes shortly after Light & Wonder’s $850 million acquisition of Grover Gaming’s charitable assets in the US, expanding its international footprint and underscoring its multi-vertical growth ambitions.
Continued Financial Momentum
The announcement comes on the heels of Light & Wonder’s Q1 2025 financial results, which revealed $774 million in revenue, marking the company’s 16th straight quarter of year-on-year growth.
Wayne Ellard, VP and Managing Director, EMEA at Light & Wonder, added:
“This upgrade gives [Mecca’s] venues a strong foundation for the future while improving the player experience across the board.”
Final Thoughts
With UK gambling venues under increasing scrutiny and legislative change expected in the near future, Mecca Bingo’s proactive move in collaboration with Light & Wonder signals a forward-thinking strategy for sustainable venue-based gaming. The deployment not only boosts short-term engagement and revenue but also prepares the operator for long-term market and regulatory resilience.
