State lottery operator introduces new digital platform to strengthen local control, boost revenue retention, and modernize Senegal’s regulated gaming sector
Senegal’s national lottery operator, Loterie Nationale Sénégalaise (LONASE), has officially launched LPBet, a new online sports betting platform designed to strengthen its position in the country’s rapidly expanding digital gaming market and reduce the dominance of foreign betting operators.
The launch of LPBet forms part of LONASE’s broader digital transformation strategy aimed at modernizing its services, improving competitiveness, and ensuring that a larger share of betting activity is channelled through a locally regulated platform. The initiative also reflects Senegal’s wider push to reinforce national control over the gaming sector while adapting to shifting consumer behaviour driven by mobile-first betting trends.
A Local Platform for a Growing Digital Market
LPBet has been developed as a fully digital sports betting and gaming platform accessible via both mobile devices and desktop systems. The platform offers users a range of services including pre-match betting, live betting, and integrated digital payment options tailored to local transaction methods.
According to LONASE, the platform is designed to meet the expectations of Senegalese users who are increasingly shifting from retail betting outlets to online and mobile-based gaming solutions. The operator believes that providing a competitive national alternative will help retain players within the regulated ecosystem.
By strengthening its digital offering, LONASE aims to reduce reliance on foreign platforms that currently dominate a significant portion of Senegal’s online betting market.
Strengthening Digital Sovereignty in Gaming
During the launch event in Dakar, LONASE Director General Toussaint Manga described LPBet as a platform built “by Senegalese, for Senegalese,” emphasizing its role in supporting national digital sovereignty in the gaming sector.
He noted that the initiative is not only about expanding LONASE’s commercial footprint but also about ensuring that gaming revenues generated within Senegal are retained locally and contribute to national development objectives.
The introduction of LPBet follows earlier modernization efforts such as LONASE Way and forms part of a wider strategy to reposition the organization as a digitally driven gaming operator capable of competing with international brands.
Competing with Foreign Operators
A key objective behind the launch is to provide a regulated domestic alternative to international betting companies that continue to attract a large share of Senegal’s online betting audience.
LONASE believes that a strong national platform will help redirect market activity into the regulated environment, improving tax compliance, strengthening oversight, and increasing government revenue from the gaming sector.
The organization also views LPBet as a tool to enhance regulatory control, ensuring that betting activities remain aligned with national laws and responsible gaming standards.
Technology and Local Expertise Behind LPBet
The platform was developed in partnership with Betting Partners, which provided the technical infrastructure and digital expertise required to build and scale LPBet.
According to the development team, more than 25 specialists were involved in the project, covering areas such as software engineering, cybersecurity, user experience design, and localization. This multidisciplinary approach was intended to ensure that the platform reflects local user behaviour while maintaining high technical and security standards.
Betting Partners CEO Christopher Sevilla stated that LPBet is not intended to increase gambling participation but rather to offer existing bettors a secure and locally regulated environment. He also highlighted that retaining betting activity within Senegal could generate broader economic benefits for the country.
Focus on Responsible Gaming and Trust
LONASE has emphasized that LPBet is built around principles of responsible gaming, transparency, and customer protection. The operator aims to strengthen public trust by ensuring that users have access to a secure, regulated, and locally managed betting platform.
Director of LONASE Partners, Fatima Zahra Gadio, said the platform represents more than just a technological upgrade, describing it as part of a long-term strategy to build trust and innovation within Senegal’s gaming ecosystem.
A New Phase for Senegal’s Betting Market
The launch of LPBet marks a significant milestone in LONASE’s digital evolution and reflects a broader regional trend of state-backed operators strengthening their position in online gaming markets.
As Senegal’s sports betting industry continues to grow, the success of LPBet will likely depend on its ability to compete with established international platforms while delivering a seamless, secure, and locally relevant user experience.
If successful, the initiative could reshape the competitive landscape of Senegal’s online betting sector and reinforce LONASE’s role as a central player in the country’s regulated gaming ecosystem.
