New leadership reinforces operator’s growing regulatory and ethical mandate in Brazil’s maturing betting sector
Esportes Gaming Brasil has named Ana Carolina Luna Maçães as its new Compliance Manager, a strategic move aimed at bolstering its regulatory readiness and governance standards as Brazil’s betting framework continues to evolve. The appointment follows the recent senior hire of Hugo Baungartner, signalling the company’s intent to lead from the front in both regulatory engagement and institutional integrity.
A Compliance Specialist with Deep Sector Experience
Maçães joins from NSX Brasil, bringing robust credentials in financial crime prevention, corporate ethics, and responsible gambling. She holds a CPC-A certification from Brazil’s Legal, Ethics & Compliance (LEC) institute—a key qualification for professionals working in highly regulated industries. Her new role will include navigating regulatory obligations across multiple jurisdictions, ensuring that Esportes Gaming Brasil meets both domestic and international standards with minimal operational friction.
“Esportes Gaming Brasil has set a high standard in Brazil’s betting market with its total commitment to integrity, governance and responsible gaming,” Maçães said in a statement. “It’s a privilege to join this exceptional team as Compliance Manager.”
Strengthening Leadership Amid Expanding Regulations
Her appointment comes at a time when Brazil’s legal betting landscape is undergoing significant transformation. In 2024, esports titles such as Counter-Strike and Valorant were formally added to the regulated betting framework. This expansion has compelled operators to upgrade their compliance infrastructure and reinforce their internal controls—an area where Maçães’ expertise is expected to be invaluable.
A Broader Compliance Strategy Backed by Institutional Engagement
Maçães joins a growing leadership team that includes Hugo Baungartner, who took up the role of Executive Director of Institutional Relations and Strategic Partnerships in May. Baungartner’s responsibilities include liaising with critical oversight bodies such as the Secretariat of Prizes and Betting (SPA/MF), the Federal Revenue Service, and the Central Bank of Brazil.
Esportes Gaming Brasil currently operates under the SPA/MF licensing regime and owns the Onabet and Esportes da Sorte brands. The company has implemented multiple responsible gaming measures, including self-exclusion features, behavioural monitoring systems, and partnerships with addiction support organisations.
CEO Darwin Filho: “Governance Is in Our DNA”
Company CEO Darwin Filho highlighted that this is more than just a compliance checkbox: “It’s more than just complying with and supporting regulations. Esportes Gaming Brasil has been actively leading the process of maturing the betting sector in the country. The arrival of Ana Carolina represents a strategic reinforcement, further strengthening the culture of compliance that has always guided the company.”
As Brazil’s regulated market continues to develop, appointments like Maçães’ underscore the growing emphasis on ethics, transparency, and sustainable operational practices in the national betting industry.
