A significant redevelopment plan aims to transform the Claridge Hotel and the former Sands Casino site.
New York developer D-Wayne Prieto has unveiled an ambitious $1 billion plan to revitalize Atlantic City’s oceanfront, focusing on the historic Claridge Hotel and the neighboring former Sands Casino Hotel site. In an exclusive interview with The Press of Atlantic City, Prieto outlined his vision to create a year-round entertainment destination that would breathe new life into these prime beachfront properties.
Key Features: Ski Slope, Stadium, and Luxury Living Spaces
The centerpiece of the project is set to be North America’s largest man-made outdoor ski slope, wrapped around a 20,000-seat multipurpose stadium capable of hosting concerts, sports events, and other major gatherings. The development will also introduce 1,500 new apartment units and an 800-room luxury hotel, significantly expanding Atlantic City’s residential and hospitality offerings.
Atlantic City’s New Entertainment Hub
Atlantic City is set to transform with a new entertainment complex featuring a 30,000-square-foot esports arena, positioning the city as a competitive gaming hotspot. The project also includes a 40,000-square-foot luxury spa, sports courts, a go-kart track, retail and dining spaces, and flexible outdoor areas for seasonal events — creating a dynamic destination for gaming, relaxation, and year-round entertainment.
Shifting Atlantic City’s Focus Beyond Gambling
Atlantic City has long been synonymous with casinos, but Prieto’s plan aims to diversify its appeal by attracting families, sports fans, and tech-savvy visitors. By integrating world-class amenities with luxury living spaces, the project could redefine the city’s tourism economy and establish it as a year-round destination rather than just a gambling hotspot.
With construction timelines yet to be finalized, the proposal has already generated excitement among local officials and business leaders. If successful, the development could mark a new era for Atlantic City, blending high-energy attractions with upscale coastal living.
