Appointment underscores Africa’s growing influence in global gambling regulation and strengthens African representation at major industry forums such as ICE and iGB Live
Peter Emolemo Kesitilwe, Chief Executive Officer of the African iGaming Alliance (AIA), has been appointed to Clarion Gaming’s Regulatory Advisory Board, marking a significant step for African representation in global gambling policy discussions. Clarion Gaming is one of the most influential organisers in the international gambling industry, responsible for flagship events such as ICE and iGB Live, where regulatory dialogue plays a central role in shaping the future of the sector.
The Regulatory Advisory Board is tasked with guiding Clarion’s approach to regulatory content, ensuring that its conferences reflect current challenges, emerging markets and best practices in gambling oversight. Kesitilwe’s inclusion reflects the increasing importance of African iGaming markets and the need for their perspectives to be incorporated into global regulatory debates.
As part of his new role, Kesitilwe is set to appear as a featured speaker at ICE Barcelona 2026, scheduled to take place in January. His participation is expected to bring valuable insights into the regulatory evolution of African gambling markets, particularly as the continent experiences rapid growth in online gaming, sports betting and digital payment adoption.
Kesitilwe assumed the role of CEO of the African iGaming Alliance in September 2025. The AIA was established by a coalition of leading African gaming operators with the aim of promoting regulatory harmonisation, sustainable tax frameworks and responsible market development across the continent. Since taking office, Kesitilwe has been a vocal advocate for balanced regulation that protects consumers while enabling licensed operators to compete effectively against illegal gambling platforms.
Prior to joining the AIA, Kesitilwe served as CEO of the Botswana Gambling Authority. In that capacity, he gained extensive hands-on experience in regulatory enforcement, licensing and policy development, providing him with a rare combination of public-sector and industry advocacy expertise. This background positions him well to contribute meaningfully to Clarion Gaming’s regulatory initiatives.
Commenting on his appointment, Kesitilwe noted that it reflects the growing relevance of African markets in global gaming discussions. He emphasised the importance of practical, balanced regulation that supports consumer protection, sustainable taxation and the fight against illegal gambling.
Beyond ICE, Clarion Gaming also organises iGB Live, another major international event where members of the Regulatory Advisory Board play a key role in shaping conference agendas. Kesitilwe stated that he looks forward to contributing African perspectives to these global platforms and engaging with regulators and industry leaders on the future of responsible gaming.
The appointment highlights both the rapid expansion of Africa’s iGaming sector and the increasing recognition that effective global regulation requires meaningful input from emerging markets.
